Introducing Andrew Okely – General Manager – Strategy and Commercial

Andrew joined Calix in 2012 and is currently GM – Sustainable Processing and Commercial, overseeing the Sustainable Business line and general commercial activity including technology licensing and general contractual relationships across the Calix group.

Born in country Victoria, Andrew grew up in Melbourne and went on to study Metallurgical Engineering at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

After graduating in 1990 he began work at Pasminco’s Research Centre in Newcastle where he investigated various hydro and pyro metallurgical processes. In 1995 Andrew relocated to Sydney to work for Supaflo which later became Outotec. In 1998 Andrew undertook a post graduate certificate in Marketing at the University of Technology Sydney and then completed a Master of Business Finance.

Andrew joins Calix after a 17 year career at Outotec where his most recent role was Director Sales and Marketing for the South East Asia Pacific region, in addition to being a member of the executive management team.

Andrew’s experience covers sales process design, contract formation and negotiation, business and technical presentations and strategic planning.

Andrew has been involved in several international projects with particular exposure to Asian countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan, and has worked with a wide range of minerals and metals including coal, Iron Ore, Copper, Lead, Zinc, Nickel and Gold.

He has published a number of papers and articles and presented key note addresses on several topics within the mining industry.

Andrew is married with a wife and two children (13 and 11). Hobbies include wine appreciation, share investing, gardening and, very recently golf.
