Calix has announced the appointment of Greg Holmes as the new General Manager of its Magnesia business. Holmes brings a wealth of expertise to this pivotal role, with an impressive career spanning over 35 years in the chemical processing and manufacturing industries.

Holmes’ extensive experience includes a recent tenure as Executive Vice President of Global Operations at IXOM, where he successfully led a division of 550 employees—almost half of the company’s workforce. His leadership journey also includes significant roles at Orica, Omnia, and BME, where he honed his skills in organisational improvement, operational excellence, and strategic growth.

Noted for his approachable and values-driven leadership style, Holmes has been instrumental in fostering positive workplace cultures and driving business transformation. His global expertise in business management, sales, technical, and manufacturing functions positions him to deliver continued success and innovation at Calix.

Reflecting on his new role, Holmes expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to join Calix and look forward to contributing to the company’s mission of providing sustainable solutions for global environmental challenges”.

Innovative ideas and fresh perspectives

Calix is particularly excited about the innovative ideas and fresh perspectives Holmes will bring to its Magnesia business, which develops magnesium-based products for water treatment, aquaculture, and wastewater management. These products offer sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to traditional chemical solutions like caustic soda, stabilising alkalinity and reducing pollution in water systems.

Phil Hodgson, Calix Managing Director and CEO, shared his optimism about the appointment, “Greg’s vast experience and proven track record make him the ideal candidate to lead our Magnesia business. We are confident that his leadership will drive continued growth and innovation.”

Holmes assumed his new position in December 2024 and is based at Calix’s facility in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. During the transition, retiring General Manager, Bill Karis, will work closely with Holmes to ensure a seamless handover.

Bill Karis’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished career at Calix. The company expressed its gratitude for Karis’s dedication and invaluable contributions over the years. “Bill has been a cornerstone of our Magnesia division and water treatment business, and his leadership has been instrumental in our success,” said Hodgson. “We sincerely thank him and wish him a happy and healthy retirement.”

With Greg Holmes at the helm, Calix is poised for a new era of growth and innovation in its Magnesia business, continuing its mission to provide safe, sustainable, and effective solutions for global environmental challenges.
