ACTI-Mag provides more CaCO3 equivalent alkalinity on an equal weight basis when compared with hydrated lime and caustic soda, lowering chemical consumption. Unlike caustic soda, ACTI-Mag is non-hazardous and non-corrosive, and even beneficial to the environment, while sodium is a salinity hazard.
ACTI-Mag is significantly less expensive than caustic soda because every 1.0 kg of 50% NaOH can be replaced by 0.6 kgs of 60% Mg(OH)2 to provide the same number of moles of hydroxide (OH-) for pH neutralisation.
Higher concentration of Fats, Oils and Greases (FOGs) can lead to the formation of fat bergs, scamming, pump blockages, pipe restriction and pipe blockage, in addition to the formation of odour related issues like hydrogen sulphide gas (HāS). ACTI-Mag is a safe and environmentally friendly solution for FOGs in wastewater.
To meet environmental standards, phosphorus ā usually in the form of phosphates ā has to be treated and reduced from wastewater before it is discharged into a local water body or land irrigation. With a chemistry similar to the antacids used in human digestive systems, Calix can safely and cost-effectively remove phosphate from municipal and industrial wastewater.
Calix can help reduce the organic component in wastewater streams. Reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) means sewage will support the growth of less bacteria and effluent will be better able to infiltrate tight soils.

How it works
It is produced using Calixās platform technology, which creates unique nanoporous materials with enhanced chemical and bioactivity.
Chemical dosing in wastewater treatment is the controlled delivery of chemicals into the process stream either to adjust and maintain the pH, reduce hydrogen sulphide odours, prevent corrosion of sewer assets, or remove undesirable elements, such as phosphorus or fats, oils and grease.

ACTI-Magās pH peaks at 10.3 and buffers in the solution between 8.5 and 9. The MHL dissolves slowly over time with particles remaining in suspension for as long as needed.
